Custom engagement rings and hand-engraved jewellery by Alex Bär — one goldsmith, one atelier, every piece entirely yours.
Every ring begins as a conversation about who you are and what this moment means to you. From that conversation, Alex draws, designs, and hand-engraves a piece that has never existed before — and never will again. This is not a service. It is a collaboration between two people who both care enormously about the result.
Alex works with round brilliant, oval, marquise, emerald, and cushion cut diamonds — as well as sapphires, rubies, and heirloom stones you bring to the first meeting. No standard settings exist here. Every proportion, every profile, every millimetre of engraving is decided together, then executed by hand.
Natural and lab-grown diamonds are both available, each sourced and presented with full grading detail before you commit to anything.

Hand-engraving is freehand — no templates, no laser, no repetition. Alex cuts directly into the metal with a steel graver, working from eye and instinct, one stroke at a time. He is among a small number of goldsmiths practising this skill professionally in Canada, and one of even fewer who design the ring and engrave it himself.
Scrollwork, heraldry, intaglio seals, inscriptions, botanical motifs — each commission begins with a conversation about what the engraving should say, and to whom.
Discover Hand-EngravingSignet rings are one of Alex's deepest specialties — from family crests and heraldic intaglios to blackletter monograms, wax seals, and sacred geometry. Each face is a small canvas, worked at a scale that demands absolute control over the graver.
Beyond signets, Bear Goldsmithing takes on bespoke commissions of almost any kind: wedding bands, pendants, presentation pieces, heirloom restorations, and one-of-a-kind briefs that most ateliers would decline.

"Alex was able to take my vision and turn it into something greater than I had ever imagined."— Reid G., Toronto
Wedding bands, stacking rings, engraved bands for him, comfort-fit rings that will be worn every day for decades — Alex approaches these with the same seriousness as the most complex commissions. A band that looks simple often requires more skill to execute well than one that announces its complexity immediately.
Inside engraving is one of Bear Goldsmithing's quiet specialties — a date, a name, a private sentence that only the wearer will ever read, pressed against the skin and hidden from the world.
