Alex takes on a small number of bespoke commissions each year — pieces that go beyond rings and bands into objects, trophies, presentation pieces, and custom metalwork. If you have an idea, bring it.
Commissioned for the 166th running of the King's Plate — Canada's oldest thoroughbred horse race. Alex hand-carved the original model in wax, cast it in 24 karat yellow gold, and set a diamond for the eye. The result is a sculptural brooch that captures the horse mid-stride, full of energy and forward motion.
The piece was presented in a custom jewellery box Alex sourced and modified himself — cutting an inset for a hand-engraved gold oval plate inscribed with "King's Plate CLXVI" in flowing script and Roman numerals. The box is as considered as the brooch it holds.
Approximately $11,000.
An antique British gold sovereign — minted in 1907, bearing Edward VII on the obverse and St. George slaying the dragon on the reverse — set into a hand-engraved Greek key bezel in yellow gold and hung on a heavy box chain.
The coin is real 22 karat gold. The bezel was designed to frame it without obscuring it — the Greek key pattern running the full circumference, cut by hand. This is jewellery that carries actual history.
Heirloom coins, family medals, and historic pieces can all be set. Bring yours.
